WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT:    'TAXES'

[Scripture in red indicates wisdom or instruction from our Savior and God's only Son, Jesus Christ.]

1 Chronicles 21: 24 (When David bought a place for the altar and sacrifices) I will buy them for the full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours, nor offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.

Ezra 7: 24 King Artaxerxes of Persia decreed that no taxes of any kind shall be levied against the priests and attendants of the church of God, so as not to bring about the anger of God.

Proverbs 29: 4 By justice a king builds up the land, but he who exacts gifts tears it down.

Amos 5: 11 The Lord despises those who steal from the poor through unjust taxes or unfair rent.

Matthew 9: 10-12 When challenged by the Pharisees for eating with Matthew's fellow tax collectors, Jesus said, 'Healthy people don't need a doctor. Sick people do.'

Matthew 22: 15-22 When asked if it was right to pay taxes, Jesus was given a Roman coin with Caesar's image. Jesus said, 'Give to Caesar what belongs to him. But everything that belongs to God must be given to God.'

Mark 2: 15-17 When challenged by the Pharisees for eating with Matthew's fellow tax collectors, Jesus said, 'Healthy people don't need a doctor. Sick people do. I have come to call sinners, not those who think they are already good enough.'

Mark 12: 13-17 When asked if it was right to pay taxes, Jesus was given a Roman coin with Caesar's image. Jesus said, 'Give to Caesar what belongs to him. But everything that belongs to God must be given to God.'

Luke 3: 12-15 John the Baptist preached, 'Collect no more taxes than is required of you. Don't extort money, and don't accuse people of things you know they didn't do. Be content with your pay.'

Luke 5: 29-32 When challenged by the Pharisees for eating with Matthew's fellow tax collectors, Jesus said, 'Healthy people don't need a doctor. Sick people do. I have come to call sinners, not those who think they are already good enough.'

Luke 20: 20-26 When asked if it was right to pay taxes, Jesus was given a Roman coin with Caesar's image. Jesus said, 'Give to Caesar what belongs to him. But everything that belongs to God must be given to God.'

Romans 13: 6-7 Pay your taxes. For government workers need to be paid so they can keep on doing the work God intended them to do. Give to everyone what you owe them, and give respect and honor to all to whom it is due.

Results Can Vary: Common words are ignored (such as: "if, for, and, because, when, what, where..."). If a word is not found in our keyword database, that word is also ignored. For example, 'sowing love' could find a passage referring to forbidden foods listed in the Old Testament because 'sowing' is not a keyword and 'cloven' includes the characters 'love.' Finally, not all Bible text is searched. Only significant words are considered, although that list is being constantly refined.
Note to Readers: This is a condensed representation derived from several versions of the Christian Bible. Scripture and other information are presented here so readers can refer to and interpret the same passages in their preferred versions.
